Your renewal notice shows this year's price. Your old notice or bank statement shows last year's.
Home and contents insurance is one of the easiest bills to overpay on, and one of the easiest to be underinsured on. This calculator lets you line up your quotes by annual premium, excess and inclusions, so you can see which policy gives you the cover you need for the best price.
The sum insured is the most the insurer will pay. If one quote is for a lower sum insured, it will usually be cheaper, but it may not be enough to rebuild your home or replace your belongings. Use the same figures on every quote.
Choose yearly, monthly or fortnightly and the calculator works out the yearly cost. A higher excess lowers the premium, so compare quotes with the same excess, or try a few excess levels to see how much you would actually save. Add your building and contents sums insured so you can check every quote uses the same figures.
Check the policy documents for each inclusion. Flood, accidental damage, portable contents away from home and temporary accommodation are common differences between policies.
Combined policies are sometimes cheaper than buying them separately, but not always. Enter a combined quote and two separate quotes into the calculator to check.
If your sum insured is too low, the insurer will only pay up to that amount, even if the real cost to rebuild or replace is higher. That gap comes out of your pocket.
No. It compares quotes you already have. Nothing you enter is sent to an insurer.
