Babies : Setting Up The Nursery
Buying items for the baby’s nursery is where you will find much of your initial baby expenses will be. However, with some careful planning and time you can create a beautiful sanctuary for your baby on a budget. Here are 5 nursery saving money tips:
- Initially consider whether you will purchase new or second hand furniture for your baby. If you plan on having more than one child, then you might like to buy new items that will last for all your future children
- Tips for purchasing second hand furniture and items:
- When buying second hand do your research on how much items cost brand new, so you are prepared when negotiating a price and aren’t going to get ripped off.
- Bassinette, Cradle and Cots
- Ensure that you measure the space in your nursery so that when you go shopping for a cot it will fit into your nursery space.
- Feeding Chair and Small Table
- Some new mothers like the thought of having a rocking chair in the baby’s room where they can breastfeed the baby. Realistically, consider where you are most likely going to be when you feed your baby – will this be in the lounge room, bedroom, baby’s nursery, kitchen etc. This helps you determine whether this is an essential nursery item.
- Nursery Decorations
- Don’t go overboard decorating the nursery. You want this to be a peaceful place for the baby to feel comfortable sleeping. Initially toys, bright lights, mobiles may overstimulate your baby and keep them from sleeping.
