Babies : Play Time
The best part about being a kid is playing. A child can certainly still enjoy their childhood and play on a budget without feeling deprived! See our 5 saving money tips below to help you:
- Council libraries not only allow you to hire books, but you can borrow toys, DVD’s and CD’s. This can be a cheaper way of keeping your baby entertained. This also means that you haven’t spent a lot of money on items that the baby outgrows or becomes bored with over time.
- Generally your baby won’t be interested in toys until about three months of age. He / she will be more interested in watching faces, colours on the wall and listening to the sounds around them. In addition, you may also receive a lot of toys from friends and family.
- Your children's cousins or family friends will always have toys that they don't use / need / want anymore and most times they are quite willing to offer their old toys to you.
- Make time for your baby – talk and play with them. If you are struggling for ideas play peek-a-boo with your bub. Look up some baby games on the internet.
- Make your own toys:
- Rolling toy – decorate an old formula tin with pictures and clear contact paper. Inside, place some dry rice and pasta. Ensure lid is again attached securely. As your baby touches the tin it will roll forward enticing your baby to also move forward following the tin and sound.
