Babies : Car Safety
It is an exciting time taking your baby home from the hospital. So right from day one, you will need to have your car fitted with a baby seat to ensure bub travels safely. Our 5 car safety saving money tips will help you on your way:
- Baby Seat / Baby Capsule
- Baby capsules can be hired out from your local ambulance station / hospital. In addition the seat is installed for you to ensure that it is property secured and your baby is protected in the event of an accident.
- If you consider purchasing a second hand capsule:
- Check the history of the car seat / capsule – How old is it? Has it been in any accidents? How many owners has it had?
- Check the condition of the seat – Is it showing signs of damage or wear (look for cracks, frayed straps and buckles that don’t work).
- See if the previous owner can provide you with the instructions manual.
- Ensure the model you are looking at buying complies with current safety standards.
- Car Accessories
- Baby view mirrors are a great way to see what your baby is doing whilst you are driving. The mirror is set up so you can see a reflection of the child in the rear view mirror. You may be able to buy a cheap mirror and hook Velcro to the back and hook it to the back seat.
- You can go mad purchasing accessories for your car. Sit down and realistically consider what you will and won’t need whilst you are travelling about.
- Ensure your baby is comfortable and out of bright sunlight. You might like to attach shades to your back window to keep direct sun from burning your baby. Never leave your baby in your car unattended.
